Nelson Brothers Madeira Cask Finished Bourbon is made by filling American oak barrels previously used to age sweet Malmsey Madeira wine with our Nelson Brothers Classic Bourbon blend. Nelson Brothers Classic Bourbon blends 4- to 9-year-old bourbons together, giving it an average age of 5 years before it is finished for an additional 3-18 months in the Madeira casks that came overseas to our distillery from Spain.

Nelson Brothers’ Cask Finish Series represents a glorious union of tradition and creativity in the distiller's craft. Select barrels of our celebrated bourbon are enlivened by the characteristic aromas and flavors of the special casks that host the final stage of the aging process. Each varietal reveals a startling and delicious new dimension of whiskey’s timeless character—none more so than the Cognac Cask Finish.
The French oak casks selected for this release were originally used to age a blend of eau-de-vie made from grapes grown in the legendary vineyards of Cognac in Southwestern France. When our award-winning bourbon enters these casks, the results come close to alchemy— the Cognac’s rich colors and earthy-sweet notes, married to the high-rye savor of Nelson Brothers Bourbon, yield an ingenious and irresistible expression.

When Nelson Brothers’ bourbon meets the casks provided by our partners at Withers Winery in the Sierra Foothills, the result is an irresistible mélange of aromas and flavors—almond, cherry, sandalwood, currant, black licorice, cumin—that magnifies the best elements of both grape and grain.

Nelson Brothers’ Cask Finish Series represents a glorious union of tradition and creativity in the distiller’s craft: select barrels of our celebrated bourbon are enlivened by the characteristic aromas and flavors of the special casks that host the final stage of the aging process. Each varietal reveals a startling new dimension of whiskey’s timeless character—and no entry in the series is more startling or delicious than the Sherry Cask Finish. The Oloroso casks selected by the Nelson Brothers team restore the robustness and fortitude of sherry’s true Spanish character. When Nelson Brothers bourbon enters those casks for its final stage of aging, the results come close to alchemy: drawing out the dark colors, sweet notes (brown sugar, vanilla, raisins), and long, warm finish—with a hint of spicy bite that makes it irresistible.
