Celebrating 10 Years of Tradition at Nelson's Green Brier Distillery

What began over 150 years ago with Charles Nelson’s visionary spirit was revived in 2014 by his great-great-great-grandsons, Charlie and Andy Nelson, who set out to restore the family legacy.

The Beginning of a New Chapter

The Nelson brothers’ journey began in 2010 when they started raising funds to bring back their ancestor’s distillery. The vision was clear: to honor their heritage by producing premium spirits that reflect the craftsmanship and passion of the original Green Brier Distillery. This dream took a significant step forward on August 16, 2014, when the first barrel of Tennessee Whiskey was filled—marking the official rebirth of Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery.

In November 2014, the distillery doors swung open to the public, welcoming whiskey enthusiasts and history buffs alike to experience the revival of a Tennessee icon. The response was overwhelming, and the Nelson brothers knew they were onto something special.

Building Momentum

Exciting milestones and rapid growth marked the following years. In 2016, the distillery previewed its first distillation to the public, the Nelson’s 108—a nod to the original recipe that had been lost to time but carefully resurrected by Charlie and Andy. This was just the beginning of a series of exciting releases that would solidify Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery as a cornerstone of Tennessee whiskey.

In 2019, the distillery reached a new level of success when it was acquired by Constellation Brands, a move that enabled the revival of the Original Tennessee Whiskey later that year. This acquisition provided the resources to expand and innovate, ensuring that Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery would continue to grow and flourish for years to come.

A New Era of Growth

The most recent chapter in the distillery’s story came in August 2023, with the completion of a significant expansion and buildout. This milestone marks a decade of growth and sets the stage for Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery to reach new heights, including international distribution and a broader global presence in 2024.
