Classic Whiskey Sour

Classic Whiskey Sour

The classic combination of spirit, citrus and sugar shines through in this recipe that's been enjoyed for more than one and a half centuries. While stories of its origin vary, it can be traced back to the Lincoln administration and first appeared in print circa 1892 in the famed "Jerry Thomas Bartender's Guide." The addition of the egg white rounds the sharp flavors of the fresh lemon juice and provides a luxurious mouthfeel that's enhanced by the smooth notes of Nelson Brothers Classic Bourbon.

2 oz Nelson Brothers Classic Bourbon
.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.75 oz Simple Syrup
1 Egg White
Aromatic Bitters
Cherry for Garnish (optional)

Combine the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white in a cocktail shaker without ice. Close the shaker and "dry shake" the cocktail vigorously to fully blend. Add ice to the shaker and shake again until fully chilled. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a cherry and a few drops of aromatic bitters on top of the cocktail for a complimentary note of spice.
